Sustainability

Vermont is known for is serene beauty and eco-conservatism. Heart of Vermont Productions and the 100on100 Relay embrace this fundamental mentality in every way possible to ensure we leave only footprints as we enjoy all that Vermont has to offer. Here are some of the efforts planned for 2012

RECYCLING FROM START TO FINISH

Pete and Gerry's Organic Eggs

Pete & Gerry’s Organic Eggs is our official sustainability sponsor for the race and partnering with partnering with Athletes for a Fit Planet they helped us over the last two year to bring our recycling efforts to over 90%. This includes recycling stations along the course to collect any and all of the PET bottles used throughout the day.

WATER MONSTERS

In 2012 we introduced the Water Monsters which allowed us to provide filtered water along the course via large community water containers. It was truely fantastic to see all of the participants filling their reusable container throughout the day.

RACE BAGS

Pete and Gerry's also supports our efforts to supply each team with a re-usable bag at check in to use on the course. We encourage you to use this bag to collect recyclables: plastic bottles, aluminum cans glass, cardboard, etc. collected throughout the day an along the course. We’ll have recycling bins set up at both the Start and Finish areas as well as at several Transition Areas

ORGANIC PRODUCTS

We encourage the vendors at the race to supply us with Organic and Fair trade products where ever possible. Green Mountain Coffee Supplies the event with a variety of Fair Trade and Organic Coffee's while Pete and Gerry's and have provided organic eggs at the Okemo Post-Race Breakfast party.

ECO-FRIENDLY MERCHANDISE

In 2012 we partnered with Greenlayer, a producer of quality recycled products great for relaxing after the event of for your next run. A sample of some of these great products from last year can be found (and purchased) on our online store.

REDUCING AND OFFSETTING OUR CARBON FOOTPRINT

An event like this that requires the use of vehicles throughout the day has a significant carbon footprint. An estimated 17 tons of CO2 emissions is produced by this event. We encourage you all to find the most fuel efficient vehicle possible for your team van and to offer ridesharing opportunities to your fellow participants when needed.
